In order to have a healthy vaginal pH we need to ensure that we are looking after the right bacterial colonies in the vagina which include lactobacilli. Vaginal pH should be between 3.6 and 4.5.
The biggest influences on vaginal pH include: menstruation, unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, the use of sex toys, vaginal douching, lubrication use and hormonal changes.
An unhealthy vaginal pH above 4.5 helps to create an environment that puts you more at risk of vaginal infections.
Vaginal pH strips can be purchased online or at your local pharmacy. Follow the instructions on the pack to determine your pH levels.
